Bathroom Sinks

Bathroom Sinks

You may not give a lot of thought to your bathroom sinks when you are remodeling or building your home, but you have to remember that these are things that you will use every single day of your life, and you want to get exactly what you want. There are many types from which to choose, and you don’t have to go with the ordinary if you don’t want to. Your choices are only limited by your imagination. If you go to your local home store like Home Depot or Lowes, or if you browse though sites online, you will see what I am talking about.

I have lived in a lot of homes and my favorite, by far, was the one that had two bathroom sinks in my master bath. There was no waiting for my husband to get done with whatever it was that he was doing. I didn’t have to wait for anything; I could just use my sink whenever I wanted. Have two bathroom sinks in the same bathroom is something that I will insist upon when we finally get around to buying or building our own home. Once you have had that luxury, it is hard to go back to just one. In fact, this is the standard for many high-end homes, but you don’t have to be rich in order to have this for yourself.

When choosing bathroom sinks, you may be surprised to find that you can get them in almost any color or material you can think of. Do you want a hot pink sink for your daughter’s bathroom? I’m betting you can find it. You may have to special order it, but you can most definitely find it. You may also get something very modern if you so choose. You can get bathroom sinks that are made of many colors of marble, or you can get one that is made completely of glass.

Another thing to consider when buying new bathroom sinks are the faucets you want to have to go with them. You don’t have to settle for the same thing you have had for years, because there are so many different types out there now. You may have as many different choices with your faucets as you have with the bathroom sinks. You can even get one that looks like a waterfall if you want something whimsical for your guest bathroom.

Bathroom Rugs

Bathroom Rugs

Most people do not have carpet installed in their bathroom because it is highly impractical and the water in the room often causes a lot of damage. However, the floor in a bathroom can be slippery, and often can be very cold, so many people like to buy bathroom rugs. These rugs are small and are perfect to keep your feet warm and to keep you from slipping. They are also a great way to help you decorate in the color scheme you want for your bathroom.

I recently had to buy some bathroom rugs, and it was not as easy as I thought it would be. I got a really great set for my wedding, but after five years, they were finally beginning to show signs of falling apart. My daughter often makes messes and soaks them when she is in the tub, so my bathroom rugs have spent a lot of time in the washer and in the dryer. These rugs were of very high quality, but it’s hard for even the best stuff to stand up this type of treatment.

When I decided I wanted to buy some new bathroom rugs, I decided perhaps it was time for a change all around. I liked the colors I had in my bathroom, but I thought something new might be in order, and may have been long overdue. This time I wanted to go with dark blue, and I had to find the shower curtains and bathroom rugs to match what I wanted to do. I had a hard time picking out the right shower curtain, and my choice of bathroom rugs was more than I had thought. There were so many different brands and types that I was lost for a moment before finally settling on something.

When choosing bathroom rugs, the first thing you want to look for is quality. Look over the back of the rugs carefully for a thick and sturdy backing. You also want something that is thick and soft, because it needs to feel good on your feet when you step out of the shower. Your bathroom rugs should also be something that you can live with, and they should also fit in the space you have. You might be surprised that a lot of people never consider this and come home with something entirely too small or way too large for their bathrooms.

Bathroom Window Treatments

Bathroom Window Treatments

There is no other room that requires privacy more than the bathroom. If you have windows in this room you definitely want to add some kind of Bathroom Window Treatments to keep the area private. This may seem like a no-brainer but finding the right product for this particular room can pose some challenges.

Windows
can pop up anywhere in some homes. I was amazed to find a window in my shower. The original design of the room was built around an old claw foot tub that had no shower aside from the shower head attachment on the faucet that was installed later. The bathroom window treatments were hung well above the level of the tub in the room’s original design.

As the years went by the room was renovated. This may have been great for the owners at the time but I would have preferred the old tub. The new unit was installed right around the window. Why the owners did not cover the window is beyond me. From the installation of the tub and shower unit on the bathroom window treatments would never be the same.

The major problem with this design is the simple fact that the water from the shower pelts the frame and bathroom window treatments. The wood trim is growing mold and the bathroom window treatments need to be replaced on a regular basis. Of course, we have to do something with this particular area.

The trouble with the renovation is that we would be ruining a fairly new bath and shower unit. However, right now that doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. I just wish that I could get my hands on the claw foot tub and reinstall it. The bathroom window treatments could hang comfortably above the tub as they had years ago.

Right now the only bathroom window treatments we have for the area are cheap blinds that seem to be water resistant. They really are not but they are better than nothing at all. When I change my shower curtain I also have to change my bathroom window treatments.

This whole experience has given me a new perspective on bath décor. I find myself browsing through bathroom window treatments and I have a new appreciation for these items that usually went unnoticed. One of the most important aspects of our impending bath renovation project will be finding really nice bathroom window treatments.

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Bathroom remodeling ideas to get the bathroom of your dreams. A great way to add value to your home is to update the look of your bathroom. With the onslaught of the big box home improvement stores it’s easy to find many bathroom remodeling ideas that are both affordable and achievable.

When you decide to renovate it’s important to begin with a plan. That doesn’t just involve choosing a color scheme it also means budgeting for the project by including every item that you’ll need.

Depending on your own personal bathroom remodeling ideas you can actually make over a bathroom with a very limited budget. It really depends on whether or not you are willing to roll up your sleeves and do some of the manual labor yourself.

One of the most popular bathroom remodeling ideas is to repaint the space. The wall color of a room can drastically change its appearance. If your bathroom is relatively small you’ll want to consider painting the trim the same shade as the walls. This creates a feeling of a bigger space.

Accessories are also important when you are considering bathroom remodeling ideas. Depending on the size of your bathroom a large mirror can be both functional as well as practical in terms of adding to the appearance of the room. Many bathrooms are limited in space and homeowners want to capitalize on anything they can to help the space appear bigger. A large mirror on one of the walls will do that.

Naturally when you are interested in bathroom remodeling ideas you’ll want to give some thought to new flooring. There are many different choices in this area. It’s wise to choose a floor as opposed to carpeting in a bathroom for several reasons.

Bathrooms
tend to create a good deal of moisture and if you have carpeting you’ll find that there is a greater possibility of it becoming moldy. Carpeting is meant to be installed in dry areas. Another reason is that bathrooms can be full of bacteria and with carpeting it’s more difficult to remove the bacteria effectively.

For current choices in flooring you can visit your home improvement center. Many of these centers have mock bathrooms on display to give their customers bathroom remodeling ideas. This can help with both color scheme ideas and flooring ideas.

There are numerous choices in both floor tiles and linoleum. The average weekend handyman can install the tiles without too much stress, but it’s wise to consult a contractor if you choose to go with linoleum. It can be difficult to work with if you aren’t experienced.

Undertaking a renovation project can be daunting but with a firm set of bathroom remodeling ideas in place you are well on your way to success.

Bathroom Accessories

 Bathroom Accessories

When you first move in to a new home or apartment, it seems the bathroom is the first room you want to “personalize”, perhaps because it’s the smallest room and most easily redecorated. If you’re one of those who enjoys a long, relaxing bath, you understand the need to have your bathroom be a little oasis of luxury where you can soak your cares away in beautiful surroundings. Even on a modest budget, you can make your bathroom attractive and inviting.

A coat of paint, window coverings and a nice shower curtain is a good starting point. However, it’s your bathroom accessories, the little touches, which make all the difference. Bathroom accessories run the gamut from art work to toothbrush holders. Many of these individual items are inexpensive, so you can take the add-as-you-go approach if need be. Sometimes this method works best, because you’ll take your time to find the perfect bathroom accessories.

Once you’ve established your basic color scheme, work from here to fill out your decorating scheme. It’s best to begin with the larger bathroom accessories, in order to achieve a unified look.

Some of the larger bathroom accessories include items like toiletry cabinets, waste baskets, bath mats and towel bars. Naturally, these will be noticed first as part of your color scheme and style of decorating. Choose colors, textures and materials that fit into your overall scheme.

For example, if your walls are painted in an eggshell color, with a rust colored shower curtain, you have two avenues to explore in filling out your selection of bathroom accessories. You may choose similar tones or go for contrasting colors for your bathroom accessories.

If your choice is similar tones, a natural rattan toiletry cabinet will fit in nicely, as will a wicker waste basket and warm tones for bath mats and towels. Slight variations in the colors of these bath accessories will give you a better result than colors which are exactly the same. Oak or brass towel racks will also go well in this scenario.

If you’d like a more lively look, consider colors that are on the opposite side of the color wheel. For example, a rust-colored shower curtain will contrast nicely with teal blue tones in your bath mats. Shades between teal blue and forest green will look good in this grouping. Following through on the contrasting approach, you’ll find brightly colored plastic towels racks in shades that are just right for your scheme. Oak and brass towel racks will also work.

Now it’s time to look for the accent bath accessories, such as soap dishes, toothbrush holders and the like. Small glass vases with dried flowers can add a homey touch, as will live plants. Ferns and many vining plants do very well in bathrooms and add a lot of charm. If you’re the one who looks forward to the long soak in the bath, be sure to have an attractive candle holder to finish off your bathroom accessories shopping list!

Bathroom Floor Tile

Bathroom Floor Tile

Many people opt to renovate their home themselves. The bathroom is usually one of the first projects on the list of renovations for good reason. A newer bathroom that boasts cutting edge amenities will increase the value of the home significantly. Details can be as important as the amenities. Even the bathroom floor tile should be carefully considered.

There are several things to consider when renovating a bathing area. One of the most important things is the bathroom floor tile. There are tons of options to consider when dealing with this kind of product. Knowing about every option and factoring the cost, the time it takes to install the product and level of difficulty of installation can make the difference between a pleasant renovation experience and a complete nightmare.

One option is to install hard-surface bathroom floor tile. There are several types to choose of this kind of flooring and ceramic is the one of the most popular choices. Ceramic is strong and it is remarkably water resistant as well. This product is available in a plethora of colors and styles so you can really be creative with this material.

Porcelain tiles are quite popular as well. This product is made by a method called dust pressing. They are solid and water-resistant. They also have different types of finishes: a high gloss finish, a mat finish or you can choose unfinished porcelain bathroom floor tile as well.

Another option that is gaining popularity among homeowners is natural stone. Granite and marble fall into this category. Bathroom floor tile made out of these materials are beautiful but very heavy and they can be very costly as well. They are also used for commercial projects as well as home improvement. Some families are looking to pressed stone, or Quarry, for an affordable option.

The things to consider with the hard-surface bathroom floor tile options are primarily the level of difficulty for self-installation. The process can be very difficult and costly as well. You will have to buy mortar, tile spacers, grout, grout sealer and caulk in addition to the tiles. Installation is challenging, messy and time consuming.

However, people choose to use bathroom floor tile for their renovations for good reason. They are durable and they will last a long time. Vinyl flooring may be cheaper and a little easier to install but the results won’t be nearly as impressive and you may find yourself replacing the flooring in no time at all. When it comes to renovations, quality bathroom floor tile is the best option.

Bathroom Designers

Bathroom Designers

When my wife first suggested that we get hold of an interior designer for the house, I totally agreed with her. I mean, I had been saving up for the ideal house for years on end and obviously wanted it to look as good as it possibly could. And I had seen enough shows on the tube to know that interior designers could actually transform the way a house looked and make it altogether more appealing and attractive. But when she stretched the concept a little further to hint that we should be looking at a Bathroom Designers, I totally flipped.

I don’t see myself as an unreasonable man. I am pretty much open to new ideas, even though of late they seem to have become really scarce and consequently overpriced. But  Bathroom Designers? I mean, why would anyone need to go in for  Bathroom Designers? As far as I was concerned, a bathroom could primarily be used for two or maybe three core purposes. And even if you suffer from prolonged bouts of depression or diarrhea, or both, how much time are you likely to spend in the bathroom?

In any case, I had to submit to my wife’s demands. I wasn’t really sure how she was even going to get  Bathroom Designers till I found out that there is actually a category for these people in the yellow pages! Beat that! Seems I was the only one who was missing out on a global trend. By this time I was more curious than perplexed and wanted to see for myself what this creature called a bathroom designer actually looked like.

To be frank, I was actually impressed. Not only was this bathroom designer guy a qualified plumber (a pre-requisite?) he was also an excellent interior designer for bathrooms. After having spent a fair amount of time understanding him and his peculiar craft, both my wife and I decided to give him a free hand with the design of our bathroom.

Suffice to say that when the Bathroom Designer has finished with our bathroom, we were both flabbergasted. He had done an amazing job! Not only had the bathroom designer stayed true to his name, he had surpassed my wildest expectations! The bathroom was suddenly more spacious, more comfortable and much more appealing. The prospect of spending a whole lot of time there suddenly became very appealing.

Bathroom Decorating Ideas

Bathroom Decorating Ideas

There are so many inexpensive bathroom decorating ideas to be found but ironically this room tends to be neglected by many homeowners. The bathing area is one of the least expensive rooms in the home to decorate but few people put effort into this project. Many of us think that a good bathroom makeover consists of a new shower curtain and a matching seat cover.

Here are a few bathroom decorating ideas to consider. They won’t cost a lot of money and they will transform your bath to an oasis. These bathroom decorating ideas are not very difficult to implement but they will make a big difference for the smallest room of your home.

bathroom-decorating-ideas.jpg

Since the bathing area is the smallest room in most homes, it may be a good idea to create the illusion of space by adding a collection of mirrors. Smaller mirror will do. Large wall mirrors may overwhelm such a tiny space. Adding decorative frames to the mirrors can create an attractive display.

Among my favorite bathroom decorating ideas is using candles. Scented candles are perfect for this space. They not only create a lovely glow but the fragrances can be very calming and relaxing after a long day. Choosing fragrances like vanilla and lavender is a great way to turn your bathroom into a sanctuary.

You may also want to consider using utilitarian items in your bathroom decorating ideas. For example, I arranged large, fluffy towels in an oversized basket. The great thing about this approach is you can change the entire complexion of the room with different colored towels. Like the candles, this is one of the bathroom decorating ideas that serves a dual purpose.

Decorative soaps serve two purposes as well. Even if you never use them for washing these soaps are commonly scented and add a little fragrance to the room. You can also make your own soaps as well. Making the soaps on your own will make them unique and specific to your tastes.

Not all bathroom decorating ideas need to revolve around visual elements and fragrances. Sound is another factor in creating an atmosphere conducive to relaxation. Using a radio or compact disc player in this room can really help you complete your spa-like bathing area.

Other details include a comfortable robe and slippers for form as well as function. You also may want to carry elements from other rooms into your bathroom decorating ideas. Seashells, decorative ashtrays and even plants can make your bathroom seem a lot less utilitarian and more like a retreat.
